ABOUT ME
My name is Giulio Tortorella, i was born in Rome, Italy and moved to London, England a little after my little brother was born in 2012. I have 2 brothers, Francesco and Leon and i live with my mom, dad, 2 dogs and cleaner. In 2018, i moved to Lugano, Swizerland and i go to a school named TASIS.
Even my friends and my teachers know that my passion for filmmaking isn't small at all. In fact i have worked along side my best friend on school projects that almost always require something to do with a camera. At least we try to implement the camera aspect each time we design a project.
Because of my visual difficulty, i feel that photography and filmmaking has really opened up a new eye in me. The lens is the one thing that opens up my arty side of my brain and lets in new subjects to shoot or photograph. I found that photography and filmmaking lets me see things like i don't have an eye impairment
I plan to, in the future become a movie director or filmmaker, i would live in Los Angeles, California, here i would fulfil my filmmaking dream. I hope that one day i can update this text to 'i am now a Holleywood director', even though this is unlikely, the hope always stands and hopefully i am proven wrong.
So yes, that was my story and hopefully you can tell me yours either in the chat, or in the submission box below. Daily updates on my Instagram feed will be uploaded and hope you have fun exploring much more to see about Action Snap.

Taking photos has been my passion for many years. Since i was a child, i loved using my moms or dads old iphone 2 to take random pictures, thinking they were up to par.
Now i shoot 4k 24 movies with my Sony a7 III. This camera is a great started camera as it is easy to use, it has great autofocus and has amazing slow motion capabilities. For gimbal work, i shoot on a 28-70 2.5 lens. For handheld work i use a SIGMA 35mm 1.2. That is one of my favourite lenses and in my opinion, the best lens out there.
I use the DJI Ronin - SC as my primary gimbal as it is perfect for mirrorless cameras and is portable, small and easy to balance.
It's great cause there is an app on your phone that the gimbal connects to and you can do all sorts of camera movements, balance testes, connecting the gimbal to a XBOX/Ps4 controller, ext...
I also use a DJI Mavic 2 Zoom and Pro to get quality arial photography. I normally fly in Sport mode as it gets me to the area i would like to shoot quicker. Even though it's not your safest bet. I have crashed and destroyed 2 Mavic 2's in my lifetime and thats nothing to be proud of at all.
I do believe that equipment is meant to be warn. A lot of filmmakers take great care in their equipment but if i want to be quick and have, for example, a drone at hand, i don't want to have to take it out of it's case, calibrate it, checking for updates ext... I just stuff that in a backpack and when i need it it is ready to go. A lot of people would disagree with me on that one but if it works, flies, does what it is supposed to, then i am not doing things the incorrect way.
HOW I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH QUARANTINE FROM A FILMMAKERS PERSPECTIVE.. 2020
Everyone has been dealing with quarantine in different ways and I am positive that other peoples situation is worst than mine but I wanted to share my story as a filmmaker. I have not been able, as I said in my latest blog post, to shoot the most amazing locations but I was able to expand my business to a point where I am very proud of what I have accomplished. Not only was I able to expand my business but I also expanded my knowledge in filmmaking; learning new techniques, using new software, getting sponsored, ext. These few things are all part of the chapter of my life called ‘Expanding’. Setting these ‘Chapter Goals’ as I call them help me accomplish what I want for my business for the better.
What I have learned and what I did to monitor…
I had many plans for the summer before quarantine had started but I had to make do of what situation I was in. Mid-summer, I went to Rome, Italy, where I learned how to use my drone better then I ever had before. On my Instagram (@giulio_tortorella) I posted on IGTV small videos of my progress. Each video has different techniques. I posted these videos to monitor my progress and for my friends and family to see where I am and what I am doing of course. I did not think that these videos would get me much traction as they were informal, unprofessional and ultimately made for fun. On the editing side of things, I decided to learn how to use Adobe Premiere Pro better than I have ever used it. I posted a small cooking video on my Instagram where I show my mom making meatballs. That was meant to be for my brother who had a project due for school and I decided to edit for him. That was my perfect opportunity to use; modern transitions, awesome LUTS’S (Look Up Table)(also known as a color grade, used new music, learnt new skills, ext.
What new Gera I have been using…
I have to admit that I have not been using much new gear but I did recently get my hands on a brand new DJI Mavic Zoom which is a huge difference from the Magic Pro which has the 1 Inch sensor which I miss a lot. The zoom’s camera quality is alright. It still shoots 4k 120fps but with the cropped sensor it definitely has some limitations on what I can add to the clip (if I add anything to the clip which is higher in frames than the original clip, the clip will drop in frames) as most LUT’s are bigger than the original clip. I have found ways to make this not happen but it still is a pain to modify a 4K clip.
